A stretch of dry, comfortable weather continues across the area, with plenty of sunshine and warm afternoons. The pattern changes later this week as Gulf moisture surges northward, setting the stage for rounds of rain and thunderstorms Friday into the weekend.

Today and Tonight:  Sunday will be another quiet weather day, with mostly sunny skies and little, if any, chance for rain. Temperatures will climb into the lower 90s, but the dry air will keep the heat from becoming excessive.

Tonight will be clear and comfortable, with temperatures falling into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Monday looks much the same, although a weak boundary will reinforce the dry air across the area.

Up Next: The dry pattern holds through Tuesday, but changes begin to show up Wednesday as moisture starts pushing back into the region. A few showers will be possible Wednesday afternoon, although the atmosphere should remain fairly stable and widespread thunderstorms are not expected.

Thursday brings a little better chance for isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms as Gulf moisture increases. It will still be warm, with highs in the lower 90s. The bigger story develops Friday and Saturday. A deep flow of tropical moisture will move in, with atmospheric moisture levels becoming exceptionally high. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms could produce widespread rainfall.

A few stronger storms will also be possible, particularly Friday night into Saturday. There is still considerable uncertainty this far out, so timing and amounts of rain will become clearer as the week progresses.

Tropics: Tropical Depression Fay remains well out in the Atlantic, far from the Gulf Coast. Another area of disorganized storms several hundred miles east of Bermuda has a medium chance for development over the next seven days, but it is expected to move north and then east away from the states.
