BATON ROUGE — Southern University men's basketball has announced its upcoming schedule for the 2026-27 season on Monday.

The schedule features matchups against programs from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, SEC and West Coast, along with three regular-season home contests at the F. G. Clark Activity Center. 

The Jaguars will open the season with five consecutive road games against NCAA Division I opponents beginning on Nov. 2 at Southern Methodist University. 

The matchup will be followed up by games against Texas Christian University on Nov. 6, Drake University on Nov. 8, Iowa State University on Nov. 10 and the University of Minnesota on Nov. 12. 

Southern's first home contest of the season will be against Louisiana Christian University on Nov. 17, followed by another pair of road challenges against the University of Nebraska on Nov. 25 and Vanderbilt University on Nov. 27. 

"We're excited about the challenges our schedule presents this season," said Southern head coach Kevin Johnson. "Our non-conference schedule will give us an opportunity to compete against some very good basketball programs, and we believe those experiences will help prepare us for the intensity and rigors of SWAC play."

The rest of the Jaguars' season will include the following games: 

- Dec. 1: Home game against Champion Christian College
- Dec. 5: Away game against Fresno State University
- Dec. 16: Away game against the University of Oregon
- Dec. 18: Away game against the University of the Pacific
- Dec. 20: Away game against the University of California
- Dec. 28: Home game against Southern University New Orleans 
- Jan. 2: Away game against Texas Southern
- Jan. 4: Away game at Prairie View 
- Jan. 9: Home game against Florida A&M
- Jan. 11: Home game against Bethune-Cookman
- Jan. 16: Home game against Grambling State
- Jan. 30: Home game against Alcorn State
- Feb. 1: Home game against Jackson State  
- Feb. 13: Home game against Prairie View
- Feb. 15: Home game against Texas Southern 
- March 2: Home game against Alabama State
- March 4: Home game against Alabama A&M

The 2027 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament is scheduled for March 8-13 at the Gateway Center in Atlanta. The season will also include games against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State.
