BATON ROUGE — As the second power outage in a week at Southern University stretched into a third day, leaving students on campus with no power, university officials met with numerous community leaders to address the issue. 

Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis on Wednesday evening said he met with Southern University system leadership, state legislators, Congressman Cleo Fields,  Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

“I understand the frustration and concern caused by the ongoing power outages at Southern University, and I know how disruptive this has been for students, faculty, and staff,” Lewis said in a prepared statement. 

Moving forward, Southern leaders are assessing campus infrastructure and working with GOSHEP, Entergy and MOHSEP to provide immediate generators to bring power back to every building, he says. Additionally, Southern has agreed to conduct a holistic assessment of the campus power system to identify long-term solutions.
