Four parades hitting the streets in Pointe Coupee Parish this week
NEW ROADS - Pointe Coupee Parish has a busy week ahead with four parades taking the streets for Louisiana’s second-oldest Mardi Gras tradition.
Kicking things off is the parish's first-ever night parade, Krewe of Chemin Neuf, Saturday at 6 p.m..
It's a family-friendly festival atmosphere with all proceeds going to the Pointe Coupee Health Service Foundation to enhance diabetes education and prevention efforts.
Grand marshals for the inaugural night parade include military honoree retired army general Russel Honore’, medical honoree Dr. Louis Montelaro and community service honoree former LSU gymnastics head coach D-D Breaux.
Hitting the streets on Sunday is the annual Livonia Mardi Gras parade which begins at 1 p.m..
On Fat Tuesday, the 103rd Community Center of Pointe Coupee parade will roll at 11 a.m..
Lastly, also on Fat Tuesday, the 81st New Roads Lions Club parade begins at 2 p.m..
