BATON ROUGE — Jerry Stovall, a former LSU All-American player and coach, has died at 85 years old, according to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 

“Nicknamed “Mr. Everything,” the West Monroe native left an unforgettable mark on LSU football as a consensus All-American, three-time All-SEC selection and Heisman Trophy runner-up,” the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame wrote online of Stovall, who was inducted in 1981. 

From 1980-83, he served as the Tigers’ head football coach and later served as Louisiana Tech’s athletic director from 1990-93.

Stovall’s career also included nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, three Pro Bowl selections, and induction into both the College Football Hall of Fame and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 

His No. 21 LSU jersey remains retired in honor of his incredible contributions to the program.

“Beyond the statistics and accolades, Jerry Stovall represented the best of Louisiana football,” the Hall of Fame wrote. “His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the generations of Tigers who followed.”
