BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge woman was arrested on a charge of aggravated arson after allegedly setting the back door of her boyfriend’s house on fire over the weekend.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the Mulberry Street residence around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday and found evidence of arson at the back door, which the homeowner had already extinguished with a pot of water.

The victim let officials know he had been having issues with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Shermyria Westley, damaging his property before. Baton Rouge Police officers confirmed they had previously responded to multiple calls at the same address.

The victim provided video footage of Westley driving away from his house shortly before officials arrived on Sunday, and during a follow-up investigation the next day, officials observed Westley driving by the home again.

The woman was detained and admitted to being at the house the previous night. Investigators found a bottle of lighter fluid in Westley’s car, which the victim identified as the same bottle missing from his grill.
