BATON ROUGE — The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge opened applications on Wednesday for a $5,000 award. 

The Evertt G. Powers Fund for Creativity will be awarded to one project that embodies innovation and creativity in the Capital Area. The fund aims to address a gap in funding for creative work that may not be popular. Primary consideration is given to creativity, excellence, or innovative qualities, and the award will not censor or limit artistic or innovative freedom, the Arts Council said in a prepared statement. 

"Virtually every human undertaking can thrive by consciously including creativity in the mix," Powers said.

The fund is not only open to the arts but also includes engineering, education, the food industry, architecture and more. 

Individuals interested in applying must live in  East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, Ascension, Livingston, Tangipahoa parishes or have an organization within those parishes. 

Applications are open now through Oct. 29, and the winner will be announced on Nov. 20.
