DONALDSONVILLE - The city of Donaldsonville is celebrating its 30th annual Juneteenth Music Festival this weekend.

On June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, General Order #3 was read by General Gordon Granger which read "all slaves are free" by Proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States.

Since Donaldsonville's incorporation in 1995, the city has celebrated the day, now known as Juneteenth, with a three-day celebration.

On Thursday, an Author Talk with Daniel Brooks, author of "The Accident of Color: The Story of Race in Reconstruction," was hosted.

On Friday, a food distribution drive was held for residents of Donaldsonville with the help of BASF and the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank. This is BASF’s fourth year providing non-perishable food to the residents of the Donaldsonville Community.

The big celebration is Saturday's 30th Annual Juneteenth Music Festival. Six south Louisiana bands will perform at the festival and more than 30 vendors are set to sell delicious food and crafts.

Noon — Ceremony honoring the oldest African American Businesses

12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. — Total Control Band

1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. — Juneteenth Queens 

2 p.m. - 3 p.m. — Esco Soul Music

3 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. — RRAAMS (African Drum & Dance)

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. — Red Tape Musiq

4:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. — Casa Samba  (Afro-Caribbean Drum & Dance)

5 p.m. — Second Line for Juneteenth Queens and Sponsors

5 p.m. - 6 p.m. —Michael Foster Project

6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. — Royal Essence
