DENHAM SPRINGS — Denham Springs has become the epicenter for major regional events, including the massive music festival, Cajun Country Jam.

The man behind the success, promoter and producer Scott Innes, not only brings star power to the city but is also a star himself, recognized globally for an entirely different talent.

Innes is the iconic voice of beloved cartoon characters, having provided the distinct vocals for Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Scrappy-Doo in films, video games and commercials.

"Like I just stepped into the paws of Scooby and Shaggy. Scooby Doo. Hee. hee. he. he. he. he," Innes joked, effortlessly slipping into the familiar voice.

Innes’s impressive voice acting career includes landmark projects like "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island"—his first movie—followed by "Witch’s Ghost," "Alien Invaders" and "Cyber Chase."

"I've voiced hundreds of talking toys, video games, Super Bowl ads," he recounted.

He has worked side by side with industry legends, which still amazes the Missouri native.

"When you're in the Hanna-Barbera Studios, and you look over and Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker, is on your right, and you've got Adrian Barbeau and Frank Welker on the other side, and you're the kid, the chubby kid that wore husky jeans from Poplar Bluff, Missouri, who dreamed he'd be the voice of Scooby Doo one day. You gotta pinch yourself," Innes shared.

Despite his history in Hollywood, Innes emphasizes that Denham Springs has held a special place in his heart since he first landed a radio job in the area 30 years ago. Today, you can still hear him on the radio and in films. He also promotes a host of events, with a significant focus on Denham Springs.

"We do 95% of all of our events out there," Innes said. "You know, and there's something magical about Denham Springs. I love the historic antique district. All the people are so nice. I feel like I'm home."

Even when promoting events in nearby cities, like the recent Cajun Con at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Innes says Denham Springs remains central to his operations.

"Nintey nine percent of our sponsors are from Denham Springs because they follow me," he noted. "I always like to say Denham Springs follows me everywhere I go because I love them."

Innes' success is a testament that you don't have to be in a big city to do big things.

"Anybody can have anything they want to have. You just have to go get it. I ask people, how bad do you want it, then go get it."

Moving forward, Innes plans to focus more on the Cajun Con events, but he confirmed he will still be promoting the huge Cajun Country Jam at North Park in Denham Springs over Memorial Day Weekend. The festival continues to grow, having drawn a record attendance of more than 17,000 people last year.
