14-year-old boy dead after person fired multiple shots into apartment, police say
BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday in an apartment complex, killing a 14-year-old.
Police said that around 10:21 p.m., an unknown assailant fired multiple shots at an apartment on 5958 Cadillac St., hitting teenager Derrick Dorsey, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Lt. L'Jean McKneely, public information officer for BRPD, says it was likely a targeted attack, "They were specific in intent, with their action." McKneely said. "We know that there's been some prior altercations that involved some of the persons inside the home."
However, whether the 14-year-old was the intended target within the home is unclear.
"First of all, shooting itself, there's no understanding that comes with that," McKneely said. "But then shooting inside of a home and you don't know who's inside, where they are, what they're doing, I have no words for that."
This incident remains under investigation.
